The We, Robot event at Warner Bros. Studios, unveiling the two-seat robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals. On Tesla's investor call thirteen days later, the company said it was aiming for volume production of the Cybercab by the end of 2026.
What happened: Production has genuinely started: a first unit rolled off the Giga Texas line in February 2026, formal start of production was designated 24 April 2026, and VIN sightings suggest roughly 2,000 units by mid-August. But Tesla's Q2 2026 shareholder letter dropped the plan to reach volume production of the Cybercab in 2026, and no price has been announced. Whether "in production before 2027" is kept at token volume while the volume commitment quietly died is what the clock will decide.
