Video address to the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. Levels four and five are the top of the SAE scale: driving with no human needed, within set areas (four) or anywhere (five).
What happened: As of October 2026, Tesla has not let customers' cars drive themselves without supervision: it says its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) features "require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous." Its website lists autonomous rides only through its own robotaxi service, in six US cities: Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.
